Modern Interpretation

A relief of the sculptor Marcus Golter shows death as a selfie-photographer with a mobile phone in an arcade arch on the Stadtgottesacker in Halle (Germany, Saxony-Anhalt).

The cemetery, which is important for cultural history, was built in the 16th century on the model of Camposanto in Pisa, Italy, and is now considered to be the only one of its kind north of the Alps. In recent years, significant parts of the precinct have been reconstructed.
