DOHA | Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art | Permanent Collection

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, Qatar, has the largest Arab modern and contemporary art in the region. 

The collection is compiled of several thousand works accumulated over 25 years, containing artworks from the Arab World and other surrounding regions as well as those connected to the Arab Peninsula historically.

Mathaf collection represents major trends through various forms of media including paintings, sculptures, and video works.

Key artworks by pioneer Arab artists, such as Jewad Selim and Mahmoud Moukhtar, have been created since the mid-19th century. 

The represented artists are involved in their communities as well as in the greater art world, playing active roles in modeling the arts and society. 

Additionally, the museum presents temporary exhibitions, hosting internationally acclaimed modern and contemporary artists. The work in the exhibitions play an important role in opening conversations related to political and social shifts in the Middle East and Arab world.
