Moscow Museum of Modern Art concentrates on the art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Today, the museum has 5 venues around the city of Moscow and plays an important part in the Moscow art scene.
The museum’s permanent collection represents the avant-garde.
The majority of the represented artists are Russian, however other famous artists are displayed including Pablo Picasso, Giorgio De Chirico, and Salvador Dalí.
Many pieces in the collection have been acquired abroad, therefore have been brought back to Russia and contributing the the Russian cultural legacy.
Much of the permanent collection is Conformist art from the 1960s-1980s which, at the time, was in opposition to the official Soviet ideology.
In addition to historical pieces, the Museum supports new artistic developments and works by up and coming contemporary artists.
