sculpture art in the middle of the Sahara Desert

Algerian Desert Functions as a Museum

Although he is well-known for his documentation of 9/11, Thomas Hoepker shot this striking 1976 image in Algeria.

The iconic German photographer and member of Magnum Photos originally made a name for himself in the 1960s as a photojournalist with a desire to show the nature of the human condition.

He collaborated with German sculptor Heinz Mack on this art project, however, to create one-of-a-kind images in the Sahara Desert and Greenland.
