aerial shot of airplanes taxied at airport in Germany

Grounded Globalization

Taking to the sky, aerial photographer - Tom Hegen - used his vantage point to document the grounded airplanes at German airports across the country.

Realizing the aviation industry represents the impact of this virus on the global economy, Hegen observed an uncharacteristic order in the traditional airport chaos from the sky.

“Aviation is one of the key factors for globalization,” says Tom. “But the intensive networking of the world also means that diseases are spreading faster than ever before...The airplanes that were once a symbol of globalization are now becoming a symbol of the current lockdown.”
