Based on a map of Mumbai, these works are inspired by the satirical maps printed during the world war in Europe. The works depicts a dichotomy between filth & glitz, with the man in the suit & cape being a symbol of power, wealth & strength. In the work " The 21st Century Superman,' the man in the cape is standing atop an iconic tower infamous for its opulence, ruling over a city engulfed in filth that is represented by drawings of organic forms. The work is extremely layered and collaged with various drawing materials, gel medium, newspaper and acrylic paint to build up the painting and create depth.Taking the imagery of superman, both the works depicts a 21st century version of all that he might represent in corporate India, surveying the kingdom that lies before him.

Since the early 16th century up to now the visual representation of landscapes, real or imaginary, play an important role in the occidental arts. While looking at paintings or photographs I realized that most of them show landscapes as a whole, but during my many hikes in the Alps I got fascinated with details of the landscape before me, with the strange sculptures formed by melting snow, the long blue shadows cast by mountains on late afternoons, with clouds clued to a rock face after a storm, the interaction of grassy patches with rocks, with fog enveloping a slope or early snow highlighting every detail of a forest. So I asked myself: If you show details of a landscape do they get another significance? Does their relation to their surrounding change? If you cut out a detail of a landscape will you lead it into abstraction? Is their solitude so delicious, so pictures can be liquid, painterly and ephemeral? This is how I started my series Alpine Views
