This painting is the result of a painting workshop I did in Damascus in 2011. Each artist picked a poem and translated it in to a visual language. The poem I have chosen is called "The Canned Gipsy" , by the Syrian writer "Muhammad al-Maghout". I see Damascus in it.

In this series of wall sculptures, the organic process of wrapping and unwrapping rusted metal with wet canvas imbues the work with a shroud-like pathos. The wood-ribbed armatures and Latinate titles are meant to evoke a poetic sense of contemplation.

The painting is made using the technique of oil painting on canvas, it is original the author's work. The author used his own drawing, which he transferred with partial retouches to the canvas / technique of imprimitura transfer /; on the canvas surface the author applied the underpainting on which he gradually laid transparent lazures and made even further partial adjustments, repainting and retouching. The original composition painting was created by editing the composition of the drawing itself - original author's drawing. An integral part of the painting is the text: "Declaration of the author about of the original painting - about original author's work".For the sake of simplicity, the author recommends handing over the purchased image personally. Otherwise, the selling price would have to be increased by shipping and handling costs (the path to the new owner).

The above seminal art piece which was originally inspired by the electrifyingly mercurial and compelling words of the renowned Civil Rights Movement leader and Wordsmith, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is simply entitled, " Leave the bandwagon: swimming against the tide". It is an interestingly powerful art piece that dwells on the spectacular characteristics of the underwater creatures - the fishes. A careful peek at the picture composition will readily reveal a glaring scene depicting life underwaters where majority of the army of fishes are swimming in the opposite direction. The "rebellious" lonely fish definitely figured out its original destined career path and so decided to swim towards it. This unusual display of courage is more than enough inspiring metaphor for us all if anyone means to succeed in any life's endeavors. Dare to muster the courage as well as the will power to believe in yourself by quitting to flow with the bandwagon to swim against ocean tides despite persistent vicissitudes emanating from tempestuous ocean currents and you will most definitely stand out, for you cannot reach your destiny taking another man's path.
