The art; the news; the feelings. A gray present with some yellow, blue and green spots in a possible combination with the red hope of the rebirth season. Pungent. In a black and white world, where people go shopping, walk in the streets, live their daily life, the colorful masks are the only ones that give the humanity the meaning of freedom. In an ironic way, the artist finds humor in the importance of wearing the masks, which becomes the chance of surviving. Original oil painting stretched on a large 3D canvas, the edges are painted, ready to hang. IMPORTANT! The colors could be slightly different from the screen to the original one!

I, an alien series (2019) touches on the subject of femininity. It tries to represent a woman as a multi-dimensional being that embraces everything that she is. Her strengths and weaknesses blend collaborating and exchanging roles. An element of alienation might have various connotations. A woman viewing herself from the point of being a physical body and everything that this involves, and then moving towards mental or emotional estrangement, being conflicted within herself, and interpreting that conflict into the outside environment. The word “alien” has many definitions here such as being out of this world, coming from a fantasy land, considering oneself strange or eerie.

Part of my new series of Surrealist/Expressionist images using monolithic motifs from ancient sites to examine mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and PTSD. This one is an oil on canvas using imagery of sharp-edged objects to show how untreated emotional stress leads to unhealthy coping methods like cutting. copyright 2019 Joann Renner

This work is part of a series of portraits that i started during lockdown. I tried to capture emotions and expressions that resonated with me at that time. Also going through a personal difficult period, it became almost therapeutic for me to attempt to capture my own state of mind during this time.

This painting reflects a mix of emotions while dealing with a life-changing event. Clear white represents the honesty and pureness. Sandy gold brings up the celebration. Grey explains the self-reflection and fear that required to be hidden. Look into her eyes and feel exactly what only you can feel.
