Cities have become the natural habitat of humanity and often, we rush to live our lives and neglect to notice our environment which is full of art pieces with stories to tell and characters to get to know, although the meeting is not always a pleasure. The image depicts an undeservedly neglected building in Budapest that I have thought restored in the picture. Budapest - the capital of Hungary - is a city with eclectic architecture, in it everyone can find what they love. Pictures made with encaustic are characterized by bright color and silky light. Thanks to the well-preserving properties of the wax, the colors do not fade over time and retain their liveliness. Encaustics paintings, like paintings taken with oil, must be protected from water and physical influences. Do not place under glass when framing! Over time, they become dusty or slightly oxidized by the wax. In this case, it is advisable to wipe with a slightly crumpled kitchen paper towel and the painting regain their original brilliant color and shine.

To understand the nature of an object, we look at it again and again. Turn it over to one side and look at them from the other. This is how we collect information about the viewed object and find answers to our questions. And with every answer we get a lot of new questions. Things are usually not as simple as they seem. The multiple exposures by Spengler symbolize this urge for knowledge and insight. But also the inability to find a comprehensive and objective perception of the object. Each exposure on the film, from different perspectives, shows many properties of the object. But it also causes the overall picture to become less clear. Supposed knowledge is challenged by new information. An exposure overlays the previous one. The less clear the pictures, the more different the perception of the objects by different individuals will be. https://spengler.photography/multiple_views.htm

There is a position of radical constructivism within epistemology. One of the basic assumptions of radical constructivism is that personal perception cannot produce the image of a reality that exists independently of the individual, but that reality for each individual always means only a construction of his own sensory stimuli and his memory. Therefore objectivity in the sense of a correspondence of perceived (constructed) image and reality is impossible. Every perception is completely subjective. With the "constructivism" series, Spengler takes up this position and strengthens it. He lets his subjective perception of reality hit the light-sensitive emulsion of a film several times. The resulting images are images of reality, but the viewer cannot reconcile them with his image of reality. The viewer lacks the point of reference and finds himself in a world that is surreal for him. An attempt to compare it with his knowledge fails. He can recognize parts of a reality known to him and an order can still be discerned in the apparent chaos, but he is unable to merge them into a familiar overall picture. The viewer is forced to use his sensory stimuli and his memory to create a new construction. A new perception arises, which also differs considerably from the perception of other individuals. https://spengler.photography/constructivism.htm

  • The Kiraly Bath

    2018 • Paintings

    70 x 50 cm

The picture depicts the Turkish Kiraly Bath in Budapest. The Turks lived in Hungary for 150 years in the 16th-17th centuries, so there are many Turkish monuments around the country. Many baths have been built by them and several of these places still function as baths today. These baths definitely have a unique atmosphere which is an emblematic part of the famous Budapest-feeling. I especially love the rustic materials from the Middle Age, exotic shapes and oriental domes which created a unique fusion from Hungarian and Turkish culture. Pictures made with encaustic are characterized by bright color and silky light. Thanks to the well-preserving properties of the wax, the colors do not fade over time and retain their liveliness. Oilpainting on canvas from Abu Dhabi while sunset. In the right window I painted a lot gold pigments for the effect of the sun. My vather was an architect, I think this is why I am also fascinated from the architecture. Unfortunately he died early! The size of the painting is 60 x 80 x 4 cm. Also this painting is painted on the side. You get when you buy this painting a certificate of authenticity with the number, the size and the date of finishing the painting and my signature. I have the list of my paintings with the numbers. This list is carefully preserved.
