This work is inspired by the Caribbean sea: I have been sailing there for several weeks. And was very impressed by the shades of the 'ground beneath me': the bottom, the plants, the water combined with the reflection of the sun through it all. How it forms an endless wealth of color shades.In this way of painting, folding en wrapping paper combined with yarn in many shades of green/blue I visualise my interpretation of details from this nature, as seen through my eyes: with a huge amount of intriguing details.

Contemporary work: The definition of inheritance is the transfer of materials, tangible or otherwise, to other counterparts. It is inevitable that the process of an inheritance may generate other issues, thus diverting it towards a more extensive phenomenon. As a young adult with dual citizenships, I have faced many challenges with regards to my parents’ expectations within the spectrum of education and nationality. All the questions and thoughts are concealed within the gesture of writing in luminous paint. The contrast in education systems and parents’ expectations compels me to reconsider my identity – what is my origin and what will I bring with me into my future?

This painting tells a story about Lagos. Every individual who enters Lagos is immediately introduced to the fast and spontaneous life. Everyone is in a haste. As the figure in the painting is shirtless, as a symbol of what we call "agbero" life style, who in one way or the other tries to intimidate the other person with his or her carefree attitude. Everyone hence drops their sanity in a coven when on the Lagos street in an attempt to "shine their eye" and avoid being cheated or swept off their feet in the Lagos hustle. Yellow; the colour of Lagos, Yellow; the colour of being "woke".
