A Different Kind of Spring

Germany2020Acrylic on canvas

100 x 100 cm

Spring - a season when nature comes alive and gifts us with an enormous amount of colours, some soft, others strong. In general it's a powerful season. The spring of 2020 was dominated by the Covid-19 lockdown and traces of chaos, insecurity and fear among the people in the midst of this beautiful season. I created this painting in autumn 2020, remembering the time months ago and feeling the insecurity and fear in a society bombarded with and thus haunted by high numbers of Covid-19 infections angain and facing a second lockdown. The acrylic paint is applied on the canvas in different layers, the last layer being of thick white "lines" giving the painting an almost 3 dimensional look.

I'm a Czech born and currently Germany based visual artist and consider myself an explorer of the human condition. To express what I sense beneath a person's or a thing's appearance, I feel drawn to different materials and a range of colours, which I apply in layers on canvases and papers using a variety of techniques. This way expressive, mostly abstract works are created, some reduced, others rich in colour and texture.
