40 x 40 cm

This work is part of a series of portraits that i started during lockdown. I tried to capture emotions and expressions that resonated with me at that time. Also going through a personal difficult period, it became almost therapeutic for me to attempt to capture my own state of mind during this time.

Hi there! I am a South African artist living on a farm in the Overberg region, near Cape Town. Art has always been part of my life. At a very young age I was inspired by my own father who also painted and taught me the basics of creating art. Since then it became an integral part of my own consciousness-Always thinking about new ideas, forms and colors and how to transform these thoughts to canvas. I mainly did sea and landscapes over the years, being constantly inspired by the beautiful surroundings of the Overberg region, the rolling hills and the incredible, almost surreal light and colors. The seaside town of Arniston where the colors of the ocean can at times be mesmerizing. I am constantly developing and growing as an artist. Never satisfied completely and always looking for something new that I haven’t discovered yet. Experimenting with techniques and styles. Art for me is an emotional experience. The creation of it is a soundboard for my state of mind at particular moments in my life. For me painting is not a choice. It is something that I absolutely have to do. It is part of my soul……
