Russia2021Acrylic on canvas

29.7 x 21 cm

"Waves" is a contemporary geometric abstract painting. I used acrylic paints to create it on high quality Bruno Visconti paper for acrylics (300 gsm). The painting depicts geometric shapes in the form of wavy squares. I used four colors: violet, phthalocyanine blue, turquoise and emerald green. Moving one into another, these colors form gradients of all shades of blue - indigo, navy, cyan, turquoise, mint green. The gradients create the feeling that the picture glows and shimmers with multi-colored highlights, it also provides the effect of an optical illusion, as if many dimensions layer and pass through each other.

My name is Veronika Kikhaeva. But in the art world I am known as Weoniq. I am an emerging contemporary artist born in Russia. The style of my paintings can be described as "geometric abstraction", but they are never like anyone else's in this genre of art. From the very beginning of my art career, I started creating unique patterns inspired by my dreams, nature and its colors, and every day I come up with more and more new ideas that enrich my experience.

It all started in the early childhood, and since then I have been experiencing colorful flashforwards, insights and pictures as if not from this dimension. Some of them I see in dreams, some overtake me during my everyday life and daydreaming. I don't know where they come from, but I am grateful for this incredible opportunity given to me by nature. I just suddenly see it and the next second it seems that I know what I'm going to draw, but here starts the more unusual and unique journey...

My paintings are always a big surprise to me. Every time I start a new painting, I don’t know what’s going to come out in the end. It is an entirely intuitional and heartfelt process. The brush in my hands dances on the canvas by itself, and my mind seems to be entranced, wondering where this goes next. It’s like the door to a charming and welcoming world open in front of me. It seems to me that images and ideas themselves lead me when I paint. I'm sure that it's not only me but this magical world creates them in its own unique way.
