ABOUT ME

" Aelin Laer", formed 2007, represents Celtic Art & Crafts of painter and silversmith Mia Šerić. I`m a traditional painter and silversmith from Croatia. In my work I paint in techniques of acrylic and oil on canvas and paper and I create Celtic silver Talismans in old-fashioned way, combining crystals and gemstones in creating charged and programmed Consecrated Silver Ritual objects. As essential part for creating my artwork, I passionately study Celtic mythology and folklore, specifically Sidhe lore and Creideamh Sí, practice the old ways and closely work with the Daoine Sith and the Otherworld - this is what drives my inspirational fire, and is center of my devotion, my being and my art. Celtic Folklore, Tradition, Mythology and Magical practice form major cornerstones for my Artwork. For more than 20 Years I am passionately immersed in scholarly exploration of these topics, studying, practicing and learning, gathering both knowledge and inspiration from books, manuscripts and ancient texts, exploring ancient landscapes and channeling Other Realm. My approach (and viewpoint) to both my path and ritual practice, and inspiration behind creation of my artwork is folkloric, no matter if I am using a model for my painting or if it is a result of channeling Otherworld - the process invokes something that is hard to put into words, so I do my best to place it on canvas, paper or into silver. I spend most of my free time in forests, by wells, streams and rivers, where I channel and gather inspiration.

BIOGRAPHY

I`m a traditional painter and silversmith from Croatia. In my work I paint in techniques of acrylic and oil on canvas and paper and I create Celtic silver Talismans in old-fashioned way, combining crystals and gemstones in creating charged and programmed Consecrated Silver Ritual objects.

Born in split, Croatia, I grew up in my family home surrounded by nature, plants, folklore and art. I come from a family of creative souls and Im proud to say that I had several painters and artists in my family tree. I started painting when I was 3 years old, and at the beginning my granfather was my first painting tutor. I fell in love with the smell of paints and what I could do with them. I always found most inspiration in nature, celtic folklore, old legends  and forests,  surrounded by visible and invisible - always trying to put these glimpses on paper or canvas.

I graduated from the School of Fine Arts, Department of Painting in 2009. In 2011. I finished traditional silversmithing course in Atelier Lumezi, taught by famous artist and silversmith Lazer Lumezi , where I worked for several years, mastering my craft.

I am also a member of 3 Druid orders, but I walk this path alone, just as I channel and create my artwork alone. My bond to the Otherworld is intimate and deeply personal, and Themselves demand it so after all.

TECHNIQUE

In my work I paint in techniques of acrylic and oil on canvas and paper and I create Celtic silver Talismans in old-fashioned way, combining crystals and gemstones in creating charged and programmed Consecrated Silver Ritual objects.

The land on which we live is holy, full of the spirit of the divine.  The landscape, with its beautiful rivers, hills and streams, forests and rocks, is the visible manifestation of sacred power, the outer garment of the spirit that dwells within. Imbas is in everything around us,  just as it is within us, inspiring us,  making us grow and sense omnipresent magic and power,  hear language of the forests, whispering of leaves and singing of rivers. It teaches the appreciation of stars and moonlight, rain, the sound of water... We are free to express divinity as we experience it. From that Well of inspiration I`m trying to draw out the essence and transform it into something tangible, with my paints, through my silverwork, sketches and crafts.

I paint in nature, in my meditation space, in my painting and silversmithing atelier  and I sketch and draw on the go, especially when I`m in forests on my forest walks. I always have my drawing and painting notebooks with me, because when you are in nature - inspiration is all around you.
When working in my atelier I create my artwork in special circumstances; my atelier is also a sacred place, where magick happens, where I consecrate my talismans, where I travel to Otherworld and transform inspiration I gather into art - silver talismans, paintings and crafts. My Celtic Atelier is both a sacred shrine and artistic space.
