My goal is not to document subjects or to make statements, but to make an emotional connection with the viewer allowing them to explore their own spirit and to inspire them as well.

ABOUT ME

I create works that are either purely abstract or have landscape elements to them. At times I have a plan ( that always changes ) but most often I begin intuitively choosing the colors I want for that day and then I begin painting. As the image presents itself to me, I begin to develop it and add the details. Each of my artworks have their own way of evolving and I take care not to overthink or overwork the piece. I know exactly when they are complete as the painting rings true and beautiful to me.

BIOGRAPHY

BIO:

As a contemporary, award winning artist, Loretta expresses her visions in a spontaneous and direct fashion.

Using a bold mix of styles from sleek and contemporary to weathered and organic, her shades and shapes take on an energy of their own and each subsequent layer of texture and colour she adds reinterprets her thoughts and emotions.

Loretta works with the passion that her motifs, their essence, will stimulate the mind's eye of the observer. She now lives in Cobourg, Ontario with her husband John.

TECHNIQUE

Using various brushes, palette knives and scrapers, I layer, manipulate and subtract acrylic paint on canvas to synthesize an intricate and distinct tableau.

EXPERTISE

Watershed Magazine Spring Issue ( story by Cecilia Nasmith ) :

As an artist, Kaltenhauser is fearless and approaches her work with respect but without ceremony. Her vision seems unclouded, uncluttered. Perhaps it’s her open attitude that allows her a certain freedom. She smiles and notes, “…by not knowing the rules, I am breaking them all the time.”

Kaltenhauser draws energy from the peace, warmth and comfort she finds in day-to-day life and attributes her inspiration to the ideas that emerge from her canvases as images and details present themselves.

Over time, but within her own timelines, Loretta Kaltenhauser has embraced her abstract style – a style that exudes life and shimmers ,  a style that reflects that of an artist who loves her craft.
