About my work: At the age of 15 (1958) I decided to become a painter, with the motto "I want to learn everything". I am not there yet. The technical side of things has taught me a lot to know what I am working with. My experience as a teacher of the main subjects of colour and composition have taught me to emphasise the symbolism in both colour and form in my work.
During my time as a teacher, I started to read this symbolism, and this is how I came to have a completely different approach to not only creating but also reading a work of art.
So I assume that as an artist, we exhibit a large part of our personality; with each work we create, we lay our soul bare. We unconsciously reveal what is going on inside us.
Because of the many pupils, each of whom was a unique individual for me, I also worked with them and tried to empathise with their attempt to express themselves in their work. This means that I myself have no fixed technique and adapt to the subject that I want to bring. Each work is therefore different, I am not a Coca Cola painter whose work is similar.
The question I am often asked is, do you know the people in your work? The answer is yes, either I know them personally, or it was a quick meeting on the street (street musicians), or they came voluntarily to pose and are then paid with a preliminary study. In this way, everyone is satisfied and they are often present at the unveiling of the work.
