The East Side Gallery is the longest preserved piece of the Berlin Wall. More than 100 artists from 21 countries came to Berlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990 and expressed their euphoria about the fall of the Wall through their pictures at the East Side Gallery. In the summer of 2009, 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery was renovated and restored. In addition, 87 artists from the East Side Gallery came to Berlin again to paint their picture on the wall a second time. 100 of the 106 images were reconstructed, including the famous “brother kiss” by Dimitri Vrubel or the Trabi by Birgit Kinder.
