Marilion – is artistical name of Czech established artist Marcela Levinska whose works with touches of mystery, exotics, ancient civilizations have been exhibeted in Paris, Berlin, Cairo, Prague and are worldwide collected.
“I search for beauty and emotion in the world, life and art. This I endeavor to present in my work.”
I love traveling, nature, ancient monuments and archaeological sites, I love Orient cities with picturesque market places and beautiful ornaments. I am fascinated by secrets of oceans, torridity of deserts and the infinity of universe. I like to discover and show the beauty in faces of people and movements of bodies dancing flamenco and ballet.
Today I give all my passion and concentration to abstract expression including more or less hidden reality.
Several visits to Tunisia enabled me to get to know the outstanding quality of ancient mosaics in Northern Africa and the colors and light of the Mediterranean landscape. I started to cut “pate de verre” to fit my unique patterns similarly as the traditional artisans of Greece and Rome. Later, I used natural materials that I collected not only at home but also all over the world during my travels.
Original oil paintings combined with mosaics and including a wide range of colors represent my transition from pure mosaic making to painting and, to a certain extent, revive the ancient mosaic technique. Between 1996 and 1999, I studied drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the class of Prof. Oriesek.
My works of art encompass three basic thematic areas. The first area comprises the themes with a touch of the exotic, inspired by sightseeing during my journeys to France, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Israel, Tunesia, Egypt, Morocco, Greece etc. The paintings evoking the impressions of temples and sacred elements constitute the second thematic area of my art. The third range of my activity involves intimate oil and acrylic paintings and pastels of still lifes and faces of friends and also my family.
But now – the abstract way of expression is the winner.
Every painting is a new "origin" for me. I play with colors and structures, I use a lot of layers, transparent and non-transparent. I work with acrylic and oil paints on canvas or hardboard, combining pastels, coal, pencil and golden metal leaves.
Since the year 2007, I regularly organize AMBIT ART exhibitions in the center of Prague in the charismatic environment of the Ambit of Monastery of Franciscan Brethren. I invite artists of various crafts whose works of art caught my attention. In March 2009 I visited Sri Lanka for the first time. This journey inspired me to organize an auction for an orphanage which then took place within the 2009 AMBIT ART exposition.
