Maurice Caplice was born in 1978 in Clonmel Co Tipperary. Caplice graduated from National College of Art & Design, Dublin, Ireland in 2002 with an Honours degree in Fine Art Painting. After 2 years of travel in Europe he achieved a postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art from the Cyprus College of Art, Lempa, Phafos, Cyprus in 2005. To date he has exhibited throughout Ireland and abroad in countries such as Spain, Norway, England, Cyprus and Slovenia.
Artist Quote: "Topics such as placement of an individual, politics, class, nationally, environment and ethics interest me as well as baffle me. The understanding of such, generally leads to more questions, but where is the fun in answers"
Most recently Caplice was Lead Artist of a communal drawing sculpture project for National drawing day at the Butler Gallery, Kilkenny castle 2017, with a 300 plus members of the public taking part.
Also Caplice was Lead Artist of a communal drawing sculpture project for Body and Soul at Electric Picnic 2016, with a 1000 plus members of the public taking part, main collaborators Annie Lynott, Laura Flynn and Karla Healion.
Caplice also works as a community artist currently working for Developing Alternative Values a Community group working with adults with mixed abilities. Caplice was awarded the artist in the Community Scheme 2010 and 2012 run by Create Ireland funded by the Arts council Ireland. Caplice has also worked in this context for Addiction response Crumlin as an Art Facilitator 2007-2010.
Public sculpture projects about drawing and how people respond to art when given the chance to interact with an artist in the creative process. This means artists and the general public collaborate to make an art piece
