My work takes many forms, depending on what has inspired it in the first place. The Wonder is All, and being creative is the thing, whether that be in paint or drawing, as a print-maker or using mixed media, or even in writing.

Currently I am making work for exhibition in September, to be shown at Aubergine Restaurant in San Miguel, Ibiza. The series of mixed media works, drawings and paintings has been inspired by an ancient olive tree that I met as 2018 became 2019, and that impressed herself on me with such insistence that there was no arguing here the imperative to make work based on her. It is a ‘work in progress,’ as can be seen below.

The exhibition has now taken on Project proportions, as it becomes an interactive Tree Project, and the hub of tree stories gathered from people across the planet.

Other work is on permanent exhibition in Elysian Garden, Art and Dreams in Santa Eulalia on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza, where I also have my studio.

‘When you start a painting, it is somewhat outside you. At the conclusion, you seem to move inside the .’ (Fernando Botero)

The journey of discovery. The joy of the breakthrough. The 'Wow!' moment when a light flick of the brush or small dab of magenta brings the whole thing into focus, connects me to 'the other,' whatever that may be. In a word, for me drawing, painting, printmaking – the act of creating – is a spiritual journey.

As I am working I am also wandering. The wandering is important – there are things to explore: the sensuality of the medium, the subtleties of my subject.

Drawing is a meditation that forever alters my relationship with a place or thing. Making marks on the canvas must become meditative. If I hurtle blindly on towards a ‘finished’ work, I will pass over some of the most truthfully connected moments, many of those 'Wow!' moments that happen over and over again during the making of a work.

The Wonder is All.

Mary-Lynne is a fine art painter and printmaker living on the Spanish Mediterranean island of Ibiza, where she has established a working studio to work in and teach from.

She fulfilled a life-long ambition to study art as a mature student, when she took an Honours degree in Art and Creative Writing at Bath Spa University College, Bath, England in 2001. She was subsequently awarded a Fellowship in Stone Lithography at the same establishment, and, two years later, joined the Cyprus College of Art on a year-long Postgraduate Diploma.

Cyprus has a way of working its seductive magic on a person, and for the next decade she found herself still living and working there. During that time she was an active member of the art community on the island, participating in many exhibitions and events, including the first Open Studios event there in 2006, and running art workshops for both adults and children at her studio. For a time, she also taught both printmaking and History of Art to the students at the Cyprus College of Art.

Her work can be found in collections all over the world, from Hawaii to Hong Kong.

My technique varies. I have painted in oils and watercolours, acrylics and inks, drawn in charcoal, pencil and chalk, used feathers and twigs as my implements, and ground my own pigments at times. Sometimes I have combined several techniques in mixed media work. I have used paper, canvas, lampshade velum and board, as well as driftwood and acetate sheets as my ground, and I have made stone lithographs and etchings at various times of my artist life.

It all all depend on what I am working on at the time, and on what feels appropriate to the work in hand.
