Ola-Dele Kuku (architect - artist) Belgium / Nigeria
Ola-Dele Kuku studied architecture at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI - Arc), in Los Angeles, Ca, USA, and SCI-Arc (European Programme) in Vico Mocorte, Ticino, Switzerland. His private practise (Ola-Dele Kuku Projects), initiated in Milan, Italy in 1991, and focused primarily on conceptual interventions in architecture with special interest in the philosophy, theory, and composition.
He has since then worked on several award winning projects over the years which include built objects, drawings and installations. His works have been presented in numerous international exhibitions in places such as Politecnico di Milano / Nagoya Center, Nagoya, Japan / Centre d’Art Contemporain Brussels, Belgium / Röhsska Museum, Gothenburg, Sweden / Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, France / Biennale pour l’Art Contemporain Africain Dak’ART Dakar, Senegal / Narodni Techniké Museum, Czech Republic / Middelheim Museum Antwerp, Belgium / Musée d’Ixelles Brussels, Belgium / Design Museum Gent, Belgium / 7th Flanders Design Triennial, Genk Belgium / 15th International Architecture Exhibition Venice Biennial.
Ola-Dele Kuku’s installation titled ‘Diminishes Capacity’ was presented at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition, Venice Biennale for the first Nigerian Pavilion at the event in 2016.
Various works from his projects have been published extensively, and are in prominent private collections, public institutions and foundations.
Ola-Dele Kuku has lectured (1991 - present) in several international conferences and coordinated various academic workshops. He has been a tutor / guest tutor at several architecture institutions which includes; Politecnico di Milano - (faculty of architecture) Milan, Italy / Institut Supérieur d’Architecture La Cambre Brussels, Belgium / Technical University Delft, The Netherlands / University of Lagos (dept. of architecture) Lagos, Nigeria / Berlage Institute, Amsterdam, The Netherlands / Akademie voor Bouwkunst Arnhem, The Netherlands / Akademie voor Bouwkunst Tilburg, The Netherlands / KU Leuven, Sint Lucas - Architectuur Gent, Belgium / Arts University Bournemouth, England.
The architect - artist is presently working on his ’Cultural Mapping Project’ (2002 - present), which is an ‘Education Development Programme’ focusing on the establishment of ‘Post-conflict Rehabilitation’ as an academic course of study in architecture school and art academies.
He currently lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
