In the beginning there was Art.
It was not called Art, but it was Art, none the less.

Two of three works currently exhibited at the Crossley Gallery, Dean Clough, England, by Denis Taylor (Photo left): title: "cellular abstraction." Oil on Masonite board, 48i nches x 48 inches / 120cm x 120cm. (Photo right): title: "initium aquam" (See more) (Latin = life began in water). 67 inches x 59 inches/ 170cm x 150cm - oil on canvas - ©DenisTaylor. 2007 & 2018.

about the artist:
Denis has a colour palette that is as bold as his subjects, his canvases are awash with startlingly colour. His style as a painter eludes being characterised as one school or another and is instead distinctly original, rather than being influenced by the work of past masters or his peers, Denis allows his visual intelligence to inform his work. However, it is his mastery of an experienced artists hand and his composition that allow him the total freedom of an authentic visual expression.

Denis is a much exhibited and commissioned [from 1989] artist and also a writer who supports and promotes a unique 21st century approach to painting. He celebrates the traditions and achievements of past artistic masters, but first and foremost supports contemporary artists aspiring to reach new heights of self-expression.

He has written about art and artists for high street gallery catalogues, the International Art Market Magazine and painters Tubes magazine for a number of years. He conceived, wrote and produced videos for BBC North West about the future development of Art [2006]. He has delivered openings talks and speeches for art events at museum and public institutions in both the UK and Sweden. Denis’s Studio is based in Sweden.

Written by David Traves for Crossley Gallery Dean Clough Limited, for the exhibition catalogue: "defining the elemental" Oct 27th 2018 to Jan 12 - 2019
