I currently have two art works at "Ivers nice' in Bloemfontein. One is a large charcoal sketch of Mandela and King Moshoeshoe called " a glimpse into the past' an imaginary meeting between these two great leaders of the past.

I have recently I moved into Ladybrand town and opened a gallery space called hA_dE_dA . Here in South Africa we have a healthy population of Hadeda Ibis, also in urban areas. The ibis has a loud prehistoric sounding call ' ha de da !' Like the ibis,  my little gallery hopes to make a big noise ' art art art' !

At the moment a lot of my creative energy is going into a small cob 'mill' I am building here in Ladybrand. Also my two children have returned to homeschooling which is lovely and I have some writing projects. Hopefully my second collection of poetry will be published with Modjaji books this year.

Also this year I am trying to get my art more visible, after many years of relative artistic isolation. I have a lot of paintings and words stored up that I would like to share

ABOUT ME Image 5

I was born in Capetown to Dutch parents who left South Africa in 1976, when I was five years old . We eventually settled in New Zealand. I returned to S.A when I was 19 and have been working as an artist ever since. Based mostly in the Eastern Free state in various places, often old farm houses I have been fortunate to have lived a lot in nature and wide open spaces.

I have also lived and worked/ exhibited in the Netherlands for 8 months and in New Zealand for two years.

My painting and all my art making I think is unorthodox and perhaps you could say naive. My painting style has undergone so many phases but loosely you could call it expressionistic. My focus over the years has mostly been on portraiture. Paintings of people that inspired me, often of mothers and children. I also love painting landscape. I have just gone through an abstract phase and done my first pure abstract paintings which was such a surprise and somehow liberating.
