I've been a travelling Artist throughout my life, living and working in England, Spain, Canada and France and travelling extensively in India. I studied fine Art in the mid 60s, and achieved BA (hons.) fine Art, and a teacher's certificate. I have often taught English as a foreign language to help support my self as an Artist, and for 10 years taught excluded fragile children for Kent county council specialist teaching service. I've also taught art to an association of amateur artists in Le Boulou, France, for two years.
I work figuratively, in the past I often had clear visions of the paintings I created and in the process of making them the image would develop and change. Now I start with a blanc canvas and destroy its pristine perfection with abstract chaos of brush strokes, pouring and spraying paint and water, etc, and eventually my sub-conscious
sees something that wants to be developed, and the painting begins to unfold into a surrealist or fantasy painting that develops from no initial idea. I also paint local landscapes, when moved to do so.
I use both acrylic and oil paint, pen & ink and pencils. I have been commissioned to paint portraits of both people and animals. My work often has a spiritual or mysterious content as I have often tried to understand the universe I find my self in, via my subconscious, through my art.
